Code-N-Counter is a coding challenge that was organised by a premier custom software development company, Nagarro. The contest had two levels. The first level was conducted on Hackerearth, it was a programming challenge round. Out of 2800+ teams only 50 teams were shortlisted from this round to participate in the next round, the Hackathon round! The hackathon round took place at Nagarro’s Gurgaon office.

The atmosphere that was set for the event was this superb!

As we entered the campus, we were given our ID cards, pen, pad and a set of guidelines for the contest. Then, we were welcomed by the Co-Founder of Nagarro, Manmohan Sir. He gave us the theme for the event which was, “Educational Utilities.”

Manmohan Sir addressing us

If you want to make two dev guys friends, send them in a hackathon as a team. I came to this hacka without a team as my friends had a change of plans at the very last moment. I ended up pairing with Shubham from MAIT.

Hacking Begins!

We brainstormed for about 5–6 hours to decide the product. We discussed many ideas that ranged from data science to game development. Finally we ended up making an audio based education system for visually impaired people. Nagarro made sure that we find help whenever we get stuck, for that there were people from the core team of CodingBlocks present to guide us. There were a couple of places where we would have sat way longer then we actually did because of the mentor support.

Time to pitch.

The presentation went smoothly, except for the part where I fumbled our product’s name, thank you 40 hours of sleep deprivation. Nagarro’s hackathon had whatever one would like to have in such an event, maybe more.

Amazing people of Nagarro plus the coders.

They had comfortable sleeping arrangements, 24*7 access to food and beverages, always willing to help coordinators. At the end of the hackathon we both felt like we have created a deep relationship with the company, the office.

Happy faces :)

And..we managed to come 5th. :D
